How to Play

Play Treasure of the Apes online for free. Treasure of the Apes is a simple pixelated 3-stage platformer game where your goal is to avoid various hazards and to make your way up to the banana at the top of the screen. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Press the start button in the lower center of the screen to start the game.
Underneath the start button there is a settings button.
The upper left corner of the game has a full screen mode button.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - Move left by pressing either the left arrow key or the A key.
  - Move right by pressing either the right arrow key or the D key.
  - Jump and climb ladders by pressing either the up arrow key or the W key.
  - Descend ladders by pressing either the down arrow key or the S key.
  - Touchscreen devices
    - Use the on-screen controls.
    - Controls & indicators
      - The upper left corner of the game shows your score and remaining lives.
      - Top center the game shows your current level number and how many bonus points you would earn if you finished the level right now.
      - The upper right corner of the game has a pause button. When the game is paused it reveals a menu which allows you to control game sound, control game music, return to the welcome screen, or resume play.

        Playing
        
        Avoid hazards and make your way to the banana as quickly as possible.
        
        You start the game with 4 lives & lose a life each time you hit a hazard.
        
        Whenever you hit hazards, you restart the current level at the beginning.
        
        Levels
        
        This game has 3 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
        
        After you beat all 3 levels the game repeats the same 3 levels in sequence until you run out of lives.
        
        Level advice
        
        Level 1: On the first level the barrels can go down the ladders or roll to the end of a platform before moving the other direction. It is best to stand just after platforms if you are uncertain & then climb in between gaps in barrels.
        
        You can climb the first 3 ladders you come across to get through much of the level quickly & then you only have to deal with the barrels on the last couple platforms. (In some rare cases you can do 4 ladders immediately).
        
        When you jump over barrels it is best to move in the opposite direction they are to maximize your relative velocity and odds of clearing them.
        
        If you jump over many barrels and are nearing an end of a platform to where it is hard to jump across them you can move back in the same direction the barrels move to give yourself more free space to work with.
        
        Level 2: The hardest part of the second level is the fireball in the center of the screen. Time your move onto the first platform so you have time to jump across without the moving platform hitting your head on the spikes. When you get just below the top platform wait until the fireball starts moving away from you and then run toward the banana.
        
        Level 3: The dripping fire part is easy. You want to time your jumps so that you take off just after fire hits the platform so you have plenty of time to make the next jump. The top 2 platforms are harder as you have to avoid the spinning spiked balls and the fireball. Stand in the middle of the center platform below the top and then try to make a fairly fluid motion up the ladder & then over to the banana. Capturing the apple on the opposite side would likely cost more time-based points than one could earn from collecting it.
        
        Scoring
        
        Your game score is cumulative across levels.
        
        You score points by finishing the levels quickly, jumping over barrels, destroying barrels, and eating fruit.
        
        You start each level with 5,900 bonus points & lose 100 bonus points for every second of play until it depletes to zero.
        
        Each fruit you eat is worth 500 points.
        
        Destroying a barrel with a hammer is worth 500 points.
        
        Jumping over a barrel is worth 100 points.
        
        Target Audience
        
        The game is suited for players who like retro arcade classic games like Donkey Kong.
        
        The game has no adult themed content.
